Interested in Multicore Standards to Support Hypervisors?

On December 5, Nokia Siemens hosted an open meeting to support the Multicore Association's plans to start work on the development of standards for Hypervisors or virtual machines. The very well-attended meeting yielded a 3-hour discussion in which we sorted out the areas to focus on and included functions such as load balancing, debug mechanisms, fault isolation/recovery, legacy migration, common interfaces, security, dynamic process migration, and others.

The next step is to hold one more open meeting (you don't have to be a member to attend) in January 2008. If you are interested in this topic, email markus@multicore-association.org.

Many External Reviewers Enlisted to Provide Feedback on Pre-release Version of Communications API Specification

We've seen a great deal of interest from the community to help review the Multicore Association's communications API specification (MCAPI®). The primary objective of the MCAPI® is to facilitate hardware-independent development and to increase the portability of multicore applications, something that many developers are after these days. MCAPI® captures the basic elements of inter-core communications that are required for embedded 'closely-distributed' systems. While many of the general concepts well-known in widely distributed computing are found in MCAPI®, its main focus is on embedded multicore systems that exhibit features such as tighter memory constraints and task execution times, reliable on-chip interconnect, and high system throughput.

The Multicore Association expects to release the final version of the MCAPI® specification in Q1 2008.

Multicore Expo "Call for Abstracts" Deadline is December 14, 2007

Now in its third year, the Multicore Expo is already looking to be exponentially bigger and more interesting than ever before. The conference will consist of more than 60 presentations and panel discussions dedicated to resolving multicore implementation challenges and other issues related to leading-edge processing technologies.

If you are interested in presenting, the deadline for abstract submission is this Friday, December 14.

Conference Dates: April 1-3, 2008. www.multicore-expo.com

Multicore Association members receive a 10% discount for conference sponsorships.

Multicore Association Membership Status

Membership now stands at 18 companies and growing. The current member list includes ARC International, Codeplay, Enea, eSOL, Freescale Semiconductor, Imperas, Inc., Intel, Mentor Graphics, MIPS Technologies, National Instruments, NEC Electronics America, Nokia Siemens Networks, PolyCore Software, QNX, Texas Instruments, Tilera, University of York, and Wind River.

There are only three more board positions available, so if you have been considering membership, now is the time. Please send email to markus@multicore-association.org if you're interested.

Japan Multicore Expo - Many Interesting Presentations
